Today, we will learn how to jailbreak iPad that powered with iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool 4.1.2 using a Mac system. To complete this task we must have Apple iTunes, iOS 4.2.1, PwnageTool 4.1.2 and PwnageTool Bundles.
Note, PwnageTool 4.1.2 and PwnageTool Bundles should be saved in same place, for example in desktop.

Before proceeding further, it’s always good to backup device data as it help you to restore data if things go wrong way. To backup all your data, including music, pictures, contacts, calendar, notes, messages, apps, etc., just sync your device with iTunes and make a back up.
Jailbreak Tutorial for iPad iOS 4.2.1
Step 1: First extract PwnageTool Bundle zip file to a folder on your desktop and then right click on PwnageTool 4.1.2 and select ‘Show Package Contents‘. Here you need to navigate ‘Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/‘ where you have to paste(after copying it from source) iPad1,1_4.2.1_8C148.bundle that you extracted few minute ago.
Step 2: Now close all open windows and launch just patched PwnageTool, Select “iPad, Apple TV 2G” option and click next. Follow the onscreen instruction until it finish building custom firmware to jailbreak your iPad on iOS 4.2.1.


Step 3: You now need to enter DFU Mode.[ Instruction: hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds]. Once you are in DFU Mode, connect iPad to your Mac system and open iTunes, select your device. Now hold ALT (left) button on your Mac and click the Restore button, then release ALT key. Select the custom built IPSW firmware saved on your desktop by PwnageTool and let iTunes do the rest.
Step 4: After iTunes finish the installation process, iPad will restart automatically and now you have a jailbroken iPad powered by iOS 4.2.1.
