The issue mainly arises when the services have to reimburse their customers. It takes a day or two for the services to be discontinued if you choose to cancel your account. There are many complications that occur when deciding whether those days have to be taken into consideration or not. You could have lost the service because of a faulty AT&T internet connection, which is not the digital streaming service’s fault.
This is why there are complaints from disrupted customers that they have not been reimbursed properly. The prorated credit only takes into account a daily charge. What if you were able to use the service for one hour and it remained inactive for the rest of the day. You shouldn’t be charged for one hour, if you paid for 24.
This is a contentious issue. However, there are several reasons why a service might disrupt.
- As mentioned before, it could be due to your internet connection. Even the best AT & T internet connection can face signal problems or other connectivity issues. If your internet is not working, you cannot use an online streaming service.
- The service could be closed for maintenance. Usually, the digital streaming services automatically reimburse customers if they have shut down the website themselves.
- Your computer developed some software or hardware problems and you had to get it repaired. You had paid for the whole month but you were unable to make use of it for a week or so.
Depending on the situation, it has to be determined which party is at fault. In most cases, it is usually the subscriber who has the problem at his/her end. But because of the frustration, they end up pinning the blame on the digital streaming service.
Seldom do the online streaming services shut down for a long time at a stretch. Mostly, they go down for a few hours, and that too after informing their customers.
Hence it can be said that prorated credit is a viable option for online streaming services to adequately reimburse their disrupted customers. However, it would be better if they dealt with each complaint individually so that the circumstances could be taken into account. On the whole, digital streaming services need to improve their customer support because of the increasing volume of usage and expected rise in the number of customers.
