5 Must Have Free Tools For Chemistry Students

Real Chemistry LabLearning Chemistry is always fun. You can experiment lot of element, you can discover interesting color. I particularly feel fun when I was busy with Organic Chemistry in Chemistry Lab. Chemistry indeed is everywhere from chocolate to medicine, you probably can’t think a day without Chemistry.

Now, as Chemistry is very interesting subject, many students choose Chemistry for their future study and here is some free tool which might help them to do things better and organized way.

1. Virtual Chemistry Lab: As the name suggest, it gives you a virtual Chemistry lab where you can experiment things. Reactions can be performed in several easy steps: You can pick a container and puts it on the virtual worktable and then adds two substances into the container. The assistant will announce the result whether the reaction went normally or there was some kind of a problem. A problem can often arise, for example, if both substances are metals or a burner is required for the reaction and none has been put on the worktable or there is no information about the reaction in the database. Download Virtual Chemistry Lab.

2. Gabedit: This tool will be handy for advanced students in Chemistry. Gabedit is a Graphical User Interface to Gaussian, Molcas, Molpro and MPQC computational chemistry packages. Gabedit includes graphical facilities for generating keywords and options, molecule specifications and their input sections for even the most advanced calculation types. Gabedit includes an advanced Molecule Builder. You can use it to rapidly sketch in molecules and examine them in three dimensions. You can build molecules by atom, ring, group, amino acid and nucleoside. You can also read geometry from a file. Most major molecular file formats are supported. Download Gabedit.

3. Dhaatu: The Periodic Table: As the name suggest its organize and show a periodic table which help you learn chemical reactions. Get vast information regarding all the elements(116) of the modern Periodic Table. With this tool, you’ll never find yourself short of information about the elements that make this universe. Download Dhaatu.

4. ChemDigiT: It is a lab calculator. All calculated variables show their exact values. The algorithm used for calculations is based on a full set of equations describing acid/base and salt dissociation equlibrium solved with Newton–Raphson method. Download ChemDigiT.

5. Molecule Maker: Very handy tool when you are in Chemistry Class. It helps you to take notes for chemical science classes using a computer, faster and easier. Molecule Maker uses an extremely simple user interface that is easy to learn and will allow you draw diagrams of even the most complex substances. Download Molecule Maker.

The EquPixy 2.1 add-in for Microsoft Word will help you to work with chemical formulas and equations. The figures that designate the number of atoms in chemical formulas are automatically converted into subscripts, and the ion charge numbers and atom oxidation degrees are converted into superscripts. The function of writing a capital or lowercase letter depending on the length of pushing down the keyboard key is available for writing chemical elements; if you push down and immediately release the key, a capital letter is written, if you push down the key and hold it for a second a lowercase letter is written. The EquPixy add-in has the ability of checking the validity of chemical equations for the required number of elements on their right and left sides. Other useful functions are also available. For example, the generation of an arrow with indication of reaction conditions, etc. The toolbar has point-and-click access keys for the most frequently used letters of the Greek Alphabet and mathematical symbols.
