Aptana Studio – An Opensource Dreamweaver Alternative
Truly speaking I am a big fan of Dreamweaver but I have the old version Dreamweaver 8. Recently I am thinking about to create templates for blogger. I am spending my time on CSS and XML. However Dreamweaver 8 can’t understand some of the recent features added in CSS. Instead of waiting for Dreamweaver CS4 from one of my friend I try to hunt an opensource software for it. You know, I am, addict of opensource software. Anyway in the search for a good alternative of Dreamweaver I found two name one is NVU which is already explained by me and now this one Aptana Studio.
Aptana Studio is much more feature packed than NVU and if you know Java than you can modify the source code to fulfill your need.
Another good thing about this is its browser supporting feature. There is an untold rule for designer and coder that they should check there work at least in two standard browser. Aptana come with build in Firefox and IE browser with debugging facility for Firefox but you can add other browser too to check your work. Click here to check how.
Another good thing in my mind is Aptana preview feature is much more accurate than Dreamweaver.
They have very effective community where you can expect instant support from around the world. It has too many plugin which will make your work much easier. Those are free as well as paid.
I find only one thing which I need badly is WYSIWYG editor. There are no build in WYSIWYG editor in Aptana however there are some paid plugin for it. Though it is good practice to use the code editor as it will definitely improve your coding skill. I improve lot using it in just 1 day. The WYSIWYG editor actually kill our coding skill.
