Why should Facebook support Greenpeace and use 100% renewable energy?

Everything is ok there until Facebook announced that it is building its own gigantic data center in Oregon and unlike Google and Microsoft which both use hydroelectric power, Facebook will use dirty cool and that’s the most problematic zone.

According to EIA (Energy Information Administration) the resulting ratio of coal reserves to production is approximately 130 years. However, the rate of coal consumption is annually increasing at 2-3% per year and, setting the growth rate to 2.5% yields an exponential depletion time of 56 years (in 2065). At the current global total energy consumption of 15.7 terawatts, there is enough coal to provide the entire planet with all of its energy for 37 years (assuming 0% growth in demand and ignoring transportation’s need for liquid fuels).

As the stat show we have to reserve coal for our future humanity and the best way is asking big companies to do that and create an iconic face of energy savvy to inspire others to follow their path.

Facebook definitely taking reverse way where Google, eBay, and a number of others are taking the energy savvy direction. Last time change.org tried their best to give Facebook signal on this by starting a petition called “Stop Facebook from Switching to Dirty Coal”. However, unfortunately most of the Facebook users was unaware about this and the petition only able to manage 2,753 signature where Facebook has over 400+ millions users.

But this time Greenpeace take different approach and instead of petition they create a group which is definitely better than previous method to alert other Facebook users and this way they already manage over 151000 members.

Greenpeace really take a decent approach to make environment little more cleaner and better for future humanity. As a human being we all have to join that group and try to force Facebook to think about renewable energy.

If Greenpeace movement will win then that will be iconic and may be will encourage many more company follow the same path as Facebook is really a buzz zone for people, for business.

Ever have a wish to know if the recipient read your email or not. Sometime you run an important campaign and you wish all your recipient should read your email but how will you know if they read it or not? There are two ways to know this – either by asking a feedback or by injecting a tracking technique.

Here I’m going to discuss about injecting a tracking technique. There are two types of technique we can use – one is by inputting tracking image and another by inputting tracking url.

Here are 3 websites that help you to track email reading by injecting tracking image:

The problem with this technique is, it can’t always show you satisfying result as it depend on image. If recipient won’t download the image, for example gmail by default block image unless you ask gmail to unblock it, the service unable to show the result even your recipient read that mail.

Now talk about another technique but this technique need a little skill. You have to write the email in a way that encourage recipient to click on your given link. First you need to sign up with a url tracking website and then you need to convert a website link into a tracking link via that service. Now send a email with that tracking url and if the recipient click on that link, that mean s/he already read that. Not satisfying but still worth your attention.
