This is my second Weekly Article for you. Today my topic is Web Traffic. Web Traffic is very important to all webmaster. Sometime traffic defines the life of a site. According to Wikipedia Web traffic is the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a web site. It is a large portion of Internet traffic. This is determined by the number of visitors and the number of pages they visit. Sites monitor the incoming and outgoing traffic to see which parts or pages of their site are popular and if there are any apparent trends, such as one specific page being viewed mostly by people in a particular country.

I am a blogger so I decide to explain the secret of getting traffic on your blog. Though anyone can use this for there site but this article is written for blogger.

Basic Things

Most of us aware about this listed fact but I written it assuming some new blogger also visit it.

1. First you must decide which type your blog belong to. Give a proper name of your site according to your site content but I believe the most important factor than the name is the tagline which is actually a sort description about your site. Make sure this is on for your site title. If you can’t see your sort description in your home page title then you have to put appropriate code on your header file of your blog. If you using Wordpress as blogging software then find “<title>” in your header and put “echo ‘ – ‘; bloginfo (‘description’);” after “<?php bloginfo(‘name’);“. This is a minor factor but will give good output in search engine.

2. Make sure your site is available for search. If you using Wordpress then go to your setting section on admin page and check Privacy Settings.

3. Use a good SEO tools like “All in One SEO Pack” in Wordpress which help you to manage Meta keyword for your site and for each article you write in your blog.

4. Always use proper tag for your article in your blog, don’t omit it. Though tag and keyword work like same but if you use both of them that make your site more searchable and useful for your visitor. You must know both are visible for search engine but tag are only visible to your visitor.

5. Now try to write original content. Don’t just copy-paste. Any good web surfer can catch you and you will lose them. You must know mouth-to-mouth publicity is biggest publicity and is free. And more importantly Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines are too smart for this nowadays and will detect copied and unoriginal content, sending you to the bottom of the pile.

What Next?

The above show only the basic part and most webmaster knew it even before they start there blogging. Here is some other factor which you should follow if you need good traffic.

1. Search Engine Submission: Most of us tend to use a auto submitter when the url submission concern but it is bad practice. How can anyone know which category is proper for your blog. Suppose you submit your site using an auto submitter telling that your submit is sweet able for technology but there might be some section under technology which might much sweet able for your blog like PC technology, how can a script know that? So, try to submit your site manually. I very soon go to start free manual submission. Stay tune.

2. Be Social: Use social engine to get good traffic. There are lots of site like Digg, Stumbleupon, Technorati, Twitter, Indianpad etc. which you can use to submit your site. Believe me it will give you good traffic if you able to produce good content.

3. Don’t use traffic generator: You can see lot of site offering 1000 visitor/hour skim but most of the time it’s all fake. They actually use a program to ping your URL with proxy so there will be no real human, just waste of money.

4. Try to use your site link as much place as possible in your daily life like in forum, email, chat room, letter head etc. This will increase the number of people know about your site.

5. Link exchange program is good but don’t use excessive link exchanges, then Google might delete you. Though I yet not able to find how much link exchange ask this danger. Try as less as possible and always choose site related to you and have good content on it.

6. Don’t hide source page link that will encourage other to link your site too.

7. A proofreader will increase your content quality. But when you are new you may want to cut invest. Just try MS Word or Open Office Word and used its Spelling & Grammar checking tools. It will definitely reduce error. I always use it as I am not a good English writer.

8. Submit your article to Goarticle, Ezine-dir, and Wikihow and on such site. Just copy your content and put the link at the end of the article as source.

9. Allow your visitor to copy your content but ask for a backlink.

10. When you are new try to write much content daily. That will increase your page link in search engine. You must realize the more your page submitted on search engine the more you can get traffic from them. You may post more modified content and some original content when you are new.

11. Try to use pingback engine. Make a search on Google with ping back engine and use those engines in your Wordpress ping back on setting.

12. RSS submission is also great to get traffic on your blog. You can use both manual and auto submitter to submit your RSS.

The Free Factor

Free is a thing which search much in major search engine and we are all addict on free things now a days. Earlier free are good but not best but in today’s world free can fight with paid one. So try to serve free e-books, screen server, index useful freeware, template etc.

Recommended Books & Tools: Books always help us to expand our knowledge. There are some great successful blogger who sharing there experience. All you need to buy it with a small fee. I think, we should consider it if we really want to see our site in a top niche.
